Joe Dougherty

Director of Communications

Biography:

Joe Dougherty is director of communications at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

A 25-year journalism and media relations veteran, Joe previously served as the lead communicator for Lockheed Martin’s Littoral Ships and Systems program. A long-time media relations professional in Washington, D.C.-area think tanks, Joe also served as a media relations officer at the RAND Corporation, the Heritage Foundation, and Jane’s Information Group. Joe also covered Capitol Hill as a reporter for Passenger Transport newspaper, and was assistant news editor at The Connection Newspapers in Northern Virginia. His passion for defense and foreign policy stems from his experience on the hard-copy edition of the Pentagon news publication The Early Bird.

Joe has a BA in Journalism from Bethany College in West Virginia.
