Biography:
Robert P. Barnidge, Jr., is a Lecturer of Law at the University of Reading, England. His research focuses on the Middle East, international law, terrorism, and the laws of war. He has published on topics ranging from the Palestinian refugee issue and the legality of the invasion of Iraq to the rise of political Islam and the principle of proportionality in Operation Cast Lead. He recently published the monograph Non-State Actors and Terrorism: Applying the Law of State Responsibility and the Due Diligence Principle (Asser 2008). Robert’s work has been cited by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. He has published in the Washington Times, Chicago Tribune, Politico, and Jyllands-Posten.
Robert’s academic career has truly been an international one. He received his BA and JD in the United States (Notre Dame and the University of North Carolina), his LL.M in the Netherlands (University of Amsterdam), and his PhD in Northern Ireland (Queen’s Belfast). He has taught in the United Kingdom, Israel, Sweden, Turkey, and the Netherlands. A licensed attorney in Missouri, he sits on the editorial board of the Journal of the Middle East and Africa.
