Ali Saeedi

Position: Representative of the Guide for the Pasdaran (Since 1995)

Sanctions: European Union (May 23, 2012)

In May 2012, Ali Saeedi was sanctioned by the European Union because he is a “key figure in the transmission of orders emanating from the Office of the Guide to the Pasdaran’s repression apparatus,” according to the Official Journal of the European Union. Saeedi has spent his career in the military, most notably in the intelligence sector of the Pasdaran.[1]

According to Reuters, Saeedi is Khamenei’s representative to the IRGC.[2]

In June 2012, Saeedi stated, “The only option available to them is to accept Iran’s demands within the framework of mutual rights and to stop seeking a political deal. Iran has accepted IAEA regulations, and it is in the Westerners’ interests to move within the framework of the agency’s regulations… Iran’s policies are based on a logical and sensible foundation, and Iran expresses its views openly and transparently, but unfortunately the West is pursuing other ends… which do not fall within the framework of the agency’s regulations… Unfortunately, p5+1 logic, particularly that of the United States, is the logic of force, which is in no way acceptable to our people and officials… Iran should give Western countries an ultimatum to make them aware of our logic in the negotiations,” according to the Iran Daily Brief.[3]
