Title: Deputy Prosecutor of Mashhad

Sanctions: European Union (April 12, 2011)

In April 2011, the European Union sanctioned Deputy Prosecutor of Mashhad Amir Mortazavi for human rights violations.[1]

According to the Council of the European Union, he participated in trials that occurred behind closed doors, in which the accused were denied basic rights. During these trials, “execution rulings were issued en masse, death sentences were issued without proper observance of fair hearing procedures.”[2]
