Deal: According to Clontarf Energy’s 2004 annual report, Persian Gold PLC, the previous name of Clontarf Energy PLC, was granted exploration rights in Iran for alunite and gold deposits (Clontarf Energy, June 2005).

According to Clontarf Energy’s 2005 annual report, drilling for the Chah-e-Zard and Takestan gold projects in Iran began in late 2005 (Clontarf Energy, June 2006).

In June 2011, an industry reported that Clontarf Energy wrote off its projects in Iran due to the problematic nature of the projects. According to the website, chairman of Clontarf Energy John Teeling stated the project that would be disposed of in due course (Business and Leadership, June 29, 2011).

According to Clontarf Energy’s 2011 annual report, Clontarf Energy plans to withdraw from Iran due to the prevailing circumstances of international sanctions and delayed government approvals. (Clontarf Energy, June 2011)
