Washington, D.C. - The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD), a non-partisan, non-profit policy institute dedicated to educating Americans about the threat of terrorism, welcomed Congressman Jim Marshall as the newest member of the Foundation's Board of Advisors.

FDD President Cliff May said: “Jim Marshall is one of the most aggressive and thoughtful Members of Congress on the issue of terrorism. From his seat on the House Armed Services Committee, Jim knows firsthand about the nature of the threat to our democratic way of life and what we need to do to stop it. He will be an outstanding asset to the Foundation as a member of the Board of Advisors.”

Congressman Marshall represents the 3rd District of Georgia including critical military bases and thousands of soldiers and civilians who are dedicated to winning the war on terrorism. In his first term in Congress, Marshall, who was decorated and wounded as an Army Ranger in Vietnam and studied insurgencies as a University Scholar at Princeton University, has made a name for himself as a member of the Armed Services Committee's Subcommittee on Projection Forces and Subcommittee on Readiness where he has been an outspoken advocate on behalf of a strong military.

Upon accepting his advisory position with the Foundation, Congressman Marshall said: “I am pleased to be a part of FDD's mission to educate Americans about terrorism and the need to promote freedom and democracy abroad. Terrorism is the scourge of our time and every citizen must understand the threat we face and what needs to be done to defeat it.”

He continued: “I am proud to join the distinguished ranks of FDD's Board of Advisors. I look forward to contributing to the debate on terrorism from this new position.”

FDD's bipartisan Board of Advisors also includes former CIA Director James Woolsey, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Sen. Zell Miller, Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Sen. Charles Schumer and others.
