Politics

  • Asr-e Iran runs a backgrounder on how Mehdi Chamran managed to replace Ahmad Masjed-Jamei as the head of Tehran Islamic City Council.  

Foreign Policy

  • Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Foreign Ministry Arab and African Affairs Directorate head comments on the deterioration of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sudan:
    • "There are some movements which are trying to sabotage the good relations between Iran and the Sudan... the embassies and cultural and economic centers in Tehran and Khartoum are continuing their normal work..." 
  • Jomhouri-ye Eslami reacts to the Gulf Cooperation Council's official statement concerning the Greater and Lesser Tunb and Abu-Mousa islands in the Persian Gulf: 
  • "It truly is a disgrace that the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, which constitute some of the richest hoarders of the wealth in the world, have not spent a single Dollar in defense of the Palestinian nation in the face of the crimes of the Zionist regime, but instead for three whole years have provided all the expenses of the merciless wars of terrorists and have established offices and welfare services for them in Arab capitals... It is abundantly clear that what the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council has written and declared concerning the three Iranian islands is an attempt to forget the 51 days long crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza." 
  • Kayhan welcomes the developments in Yemen which led to the dismissal of the Prime Minister and his cabinet. 
  • "The countdown to the elimination of the Zionist regime has commenced."
  • "The blossoms of the awakening that we see in the Islamic world have roots in the Islamic Revolution [of 1979]."
  • "That which we witness these days in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon is that the arrogance (a reference to America) entered with such power, but they have nowhere to go."
  • Reportedly referencing the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel:
    • "These countries, in order to demolish the face of Islam and to prevent the advancement of Iran in the world of Islam, have created and trained Takfiri groups in the region with the oil-money of some countries in the region."  
  • Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, the current Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of Experts comments on Israel and the Middle East in transition:
  • Mahmoud Ahmadi, Commander of Iran’s Air Defense Organization for the South-West noted in the city of Ahvaz: "We have skirted the sanctions with self-sufficiency." He later went on to claim the achievements of this policy.
  • Fars News Agency reports that: “The Iranian cabinet on Wednesday commissioned the country's justice ministry to hold talks with the Ghanaian government to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on extradition of criminals and convicts within a three-year period.”
  • Reuters reports on Iran’s nuanced Iraq policy: “Iran has had to take a more flexible approach to its policy in Iraq, which has led to a series of dramatic shifts, experts say. Not only have officials in Tehran dropped their support for Maliki and turned a blind eye to renewed U.S. attacks in Iraq, they have also reached out to arch rival Saudi Arabia and participated in talks about the security situation in Iraq.”

Military and Security

  • Hojjat al-Eslam Ahmad Salek Kashani on the Islamic State (IS/Daesh/ISIS) and the tactics of the United States:
    • "Daesh is in reality the American dollar against Shi’ism, but the vanishing of Daesh is certain."
    • "The arrogance (a reference to America) [by being] in the cultural arena and the issue of the soft war [Jang-e Narm] has intentions to do damage by creating and running hundreds of satellite channels and media sites against the beliefs and values and ideals of the system of the Islamic Republic."
  • According to Fars News Agency, Ali Shamkhani, who currently serves on Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and is jointly the Supreme Leader’s Representative and the SNSC’s Secretary notes:
  • "Terrorist Takfiri groups that are do not believe in any religion or creed are the main tool against the Islamic Awakening."
  • Hojjat al-Eslam Ali Saeedi, the Supreme Leader’s Representative to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) wrote a letter to the IRGC’s Aerospace Commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh where he reportedly praised the downing of the Israeli drone exclaiming that it was "a decisive and proud action." 
  • Interior Minister Abdol-Reza Rahmani Fazli warns of attempts by IS at infiltrating Iran. 
  • "Cyber warfare is as serious as conventional military warfare and its destruction power necessitates paying attention to cyber needs and requirements."
  • "The civil defense wants to strengthen the internal components of national power to such a level by reducing the vulnerability level in such a way that threats can be defused in case they are posed."
  • Fars News Agency reports comments by General Gholam Reza Jalili who leads Iran’s Civil Defense Organization:    

Nuclear Issue 

  • Abbas Araqchi, Foreign Ministry Legal and International Affairs Deputy, held a four hours long meeting with the French representative at the P5+1 Group. 
  • Various reactions to statement of Ayatollah Ali-Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani who previously noted that "If the Americans remove the sanctions altogether, we will recognize the Additional Protocol":
    • Mohammad Dehqan, parliamentarian: "These issues are not within their sphere of competence and responsibility. Not even the president can make statements in this regard alone since recognizing the Additional Protocol must pass the parliament... and deputies of the nation must, as representatives of the people, make their opinion known."
    • Mohammad Esmaeili, parliamentarian: "Rafsanjani is not in a position to make decisions concerning recognition of the Additional Protocol and his statements have no legal basis." 
    • Fatemeh Aliya, parliamentarian: "Such statements make things difficult for the parliament and other authorities." 
    • Ahmad Bakhshayesh, parliamentarian: "Mr. Hashemi [Rafsanjani's] behavior with regards to the Additional Protocol is defensive, and he himself knows that the West does not pay attention to his statements." 
    • Mohammad-Hassan Asfari, parliamentarian: "There is no reason to talk about the Additional Protocol today, because have not seen any positive action from the counterpart in the course of the negotiations."
    • Kiyoumars Yazdanpanah, Basij of the University Professors in Tehran province head: "It would be better to leave sensitive statements to the relevant authorities." 
  • AP reports: "A new and seemingly promising U.N probe of allegations that Iran worked on atomic arms has stalled, diplomats say, leaving investigators not much further than where they started a decade ago and dampening U.S. hopes of reaching an overarching deal with Tehran by a November deadline."
