Politics

  • Jomhouri-ye Eslami releases a hitherto unpublished interview delivered by former president Ali-Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in 2009:
    • “With the support of the Leader, and because of considerable windfall oil money, [Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's cabinet] is engaged in trivial work, but the foundations of the state is in reality collapsing. Should a decent cabinet emerge after him [Ahmadinejad] to administer the state, it will inherit strange problems. The Leader considers it expedient to support him [Ahmadinejad] and I know the reason, sine I talk with him [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei]. Without his [Khamenei's] approval, this cabinet will be gone with the wind. It will remain for a time, but I am an executive type and know the issues, I don't want to deceive the people. Deceiving the public is a great sin. At any rate, there are special issues which I am not raising, since I do not desire to speak in opposition to the words of the Leader. I also do not consider it correct to talk about it. I too believe this cabinet must run its time out, but I consider it sinful for myself to speak against my beliefs.”
    • “Take a look at all what they [the Ahmadinejad cabinet] - with their own weaknesses - have said against the clergy. You probably know about the opposition of the sources of emulation concerning presence of women at sport stadiums. These government people [the Ahmadinejad cabinet] said: 'Let Imam of the Era emerge to behead these sources of emulation!' How can one say such things to the learned men and sources of emulation? What they mean is that when the Imam of the Era emerges, the blood of the clergy will make the wheels move, and this is all to be found in the books! Recently, a group called the Palizdar group was discovered in the parliament. They have many things to say. Go and have a talk with the Judiciary. What they really are pursuing is to uproot the clergy. They are the followers of Mr. Davoud Ahmadinejad. They have done away with the honor of the clergy in its entirety. Imagine this or that person who is running an institution for the physically impaired. They [the Ahmadinejad government] claimed they are engaged in embezzlement. They said things about Mr. Yazdi. What is the meaning of character assassinating the clergy in its entirety? They make claims about having relationship with the Imam of the Era, which makes one wonder. For now, they should be happy that we are not saying anything."

Military and Security

  • Ali Hosseini-Tash, Strategic Affairs Director at the Supreme National Security Council as reported in Resalat: “Should the time of executing a comprehensive agreement be longer than a clear horizon, it would be dangerous... Should the horizon be longer than ten years, it would be hollow promises and deception... Both parties must to a degree recognize each other’s sensitivities and manage their positions.”
  • Jomhouri-ye Eslami's Jalil Hassani editorializes: “The after-quake of the scandalous defeat of the Zionist regime in the Gaza war continues. In the latest case, thousands of Israelis took to the streets of Tel Aviv yesterday to condemn the hollow promises of Netanyahu as the war began. The Israeli demonstrators said Netanyahu and his gang deceived us since none of the goals of the Gaza war were realized... The loss of face of the Zionists, [the] coming to light of the weaknesses of the Zionist military, vulnerabilities of the occupied territories in the face of the Resistance and the heavy casualties it imposed on the Israelis are among the losses of the Zionists...”

Nuclear Issue

  • President Hassan Rouhani as reported in Kayhan: “Iran's missile capability is by no means negotiable.”
    • “Meeting Yukuo Amano, Rouhani stressed: ‘The Islamic Republic of Iran has always pursued transparent technical and legal cooperation with the IAEA... In its development, Iran is in need of modern technologies such as the peaceful nuclear technology, which is based on the decision of the nation and monitored by the Islamic Consultative Assembly [the parliament] and aims at peaceful use of nuclear technology for electricity purposes, medical field, agriculture and the industries.’”
