As a former member of Turkish parliament and a respected academic, Aykan Erdemir has important views on what last year's coup attempt did to Turkey and how President Erdogan used the episode to solidify his authoritarian hold on power. Ryan Evans spoke with him to mark tomorrow's anniversary of the attempted putsch, which killed 249 people. Erdemir is a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.
