US to pressure Europe to ‘fix’ Iran nuclear deal

The US will on Thursday ramp up pressure on European countries to “fix” a landmark Iran nuclear deal that president Donald Trump has threatened to scrap.


“There will be some kind of fix by May 12 — the question is, is it going to be a real fix or a fake fix,” said Mark Dubowitz, chief executive of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, who has campaigned for a more stringent deal. He said Mr Trump’s hopes of negotiating the de-nuclearisation of North Korea makes it important that he does not appear to be a “paper tiger” by accepting a weak deal with Iran.
