Obama Blew it on Syria, By His Own Admission (Sort Of)


It’s not like Obama didn’t get good advice on Syria years ago. “A few years ago, the president’s top advisers were recommending that he support the moderate Syrians who were being brutalized by the Assad regime. He did not take that advice,” recounts Cliff May at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

But Obama’s errors did not, of course, stop in Syria. The vacuum he allowed to develop in Iraq led to the resurgence of Islamic terrorists there as well. “A few years ago, the president also was being warned by his advisers that if we did not leave at least a residual U.S. military force in Iraq, we risked dire consequences — the consequences we have been witnessing there,” May observes. “It would be useful for the president to acknowledge these errors and begin to attempt to correct them.”
