It’s been alleged that while Hamas’s headquarters were moved from Damascus due to the Syrian civil war, Aruri moved to Turkey in 2012. Aruri, having lived in West Bank before Damascus, was deported after serving time in Israeli prisons. Foundation for Defense of Democracies VP Jonathan Schanzer said he confirmed that Aruri is in Turkey through his sources. According to Schanzer, the Palestinian Maan News Agency reported that Aruri was a part of the Hamas delegation that met with Erdogan in March 2012. Aruri also joined the high-level meeting between Meshal and Erdogan in October 2012.
