The Obama administration’s race to close the Guantanamo Bay prison camp will reportedly speed up this summer with the transfer of 24 suspected terrorists to other nations.

An official close to the process told Fox News on Tuesday that roughly 25 percent of the camp’s detainees will be gone within months.

Catherine Herridge, the network’s chief intelligence correspondent, said that President Obama’s decision is notable because a review board in 2011 deemed remaining prisoners too dangerous to leave the facility.

The White House maintains it must close the facility to curtail recruitment into terrorist organizations. Thomas Joscelyn, senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and senior editor of The Long War Journal, told Congress that Mr. Obama’s efforts are about something else — politics.

“[Closing the prison is] all about ideologically driven policy. It’s not about the actual assessment of the risks of these individuals,” Mr. Joscelyn said Tuesday while on Capitol Hill, Fox reported.
