Your Tuesday Cheat Sheet 2-4-14

Pen, phone and, we guess, keyboard. President Obama warned Congress during the State of the Union that if it didn’t get with the program, he’d use pen and phone to execute a few end-arounds. Tuesday he uses keyboard and the Internet as he promotes an initiative to improve high-speed Internet access in classrooms. A bunch of companies will assist, though this obviously doesn’t do much to impact the knotty web of social, cultural and economic problems that plague big-city (and other) school systems.

1. After a pretty long day, Obama and Joe Biden host House Democrats at the White House for a clear-the-air tactical session.  It will be interesting to learn if there are any testy exchanges among the House members, who are far from unanimous on issues such as proposed trade agreements and whether get tougher on Iran.

2. Attorney General Eric Holder got a trip on the taxpayers to Sweden, where he’ll address their parliament and “discuss the global struggle for LGBT equality” and  “other civil rights challenges shared by the United States and Sweden.”

8. Al Qaeda and related groups are spotlighted as counterterrorism scholars, including Rand Corp.'s Seth Jones and Daveed Gartenstein-Ross of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, go before the House Armed Services Committee.
