Ex-Premier Says Syria Regime ‘Near Collapse’
Syria's prime minister who defected to the opposition said that President Bashar al -Assad's regime was near collapse and urged other political and military leaders to tip the scales and join the rebel side.
In the first public appearance since his defection earlier this month, Riad Hijab said he was helpless to stop the regime's bloody crackdown calling on the army and other officials to follow his example while also preserving the country's unity and state institutions
"The regime is on the verge of collapse morally and economically in addition to cracks in the military," Mr. Hijab told a news conference in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
