Peace Negotiator Killed in Kabul

KABUL—A senior Afghan peace negotiator who once served in the Taliban government was shot dead in Kabul on Sunday, in yet another blow to attempts to find a negotiated end to the war.

Arsala Rahmani, who is considered a moderate Taliban and who reconciled with the Afghan government years ago, is the second prominent member of Afghanistan's High Peace Council assassinated in recent months.

Last September, HPC chairman Burhanuddin Rabbani, a former Afghan president, was killed in a suicide bombing.
