Undergraduate Fellowship on Terrorism
The FDD Undergraduate Fellows program, our signature program which trains student leaders as anti-terrorism experts, is being re-designed for Summer 2009. It will not be offered in 2008. The Academic Fellows program for professors will be offered as usual in 2008. Please check back on FDD's program page on this website in January 2009 for more news about this program and the exciting new experiences we plan to offer in the future.
Academic Fellowship on Terrorism
FDD offers a fellowship program for university professors entitled “Defending Democracy, Defeating Terrorism.” The program features an intensive, 10-day course, June 9 – June 20, 2008 (travel inclusive), on terrorism and the threat it poses to democratic societies.
Summer Workshop on Teaching about Terrorism
FDD is the principal sponsor of the Summer Workshop on Teaching about Terrorism (SWOTT). This unique, U.S.-based effort to provide college professors with the tools they need to teach about the threat of terrorism and the methods used to combat it was inaugurated in 2005 and includes classes that encompass all facets of terrorism studies and field trips to military and other national security-related installations.
Democracy Programs
FDD's Democracy Programs support reformers in the Islamic world who are working to advance democratic values such as liberty, individual rights, and pluralism, by helping them to increase their influence with policymakers in the West and providing them with intellectual ammunition to counter the ideas of radical Islamism in their societies.
FDD Conferences
FDD hosts conferences that explore issues relating to the war on terrorism and the expansion of democracy. FDD experts also appear at conferences and events hosted by others.
International Outreach
FDD's reach is being expanded in Europe through relationships with policy institutes in Brussels, Paris, Madrid, London, Berlin and other European capitals.

Center for Law & Counterterrorism
The Center for Law & Counterterrorism puts FDD in the forefront of legal aspects of the war on terrorism – finding the proper, shifting balance that protects both our freedoms and our safety.
Strategic Communication Campaigns
FDD leverages the power of the media and our network of contacts in government and the policy community to bring powerful stories and compelling new voices before American and international audiences. Our campaigns shape how the public and policy makers view the war against terrorism and the worldwide effort to promote democratic values.
Investigative Reporting
FDD Journalist-in-Residence Claudia Rosett has been instrumental in exposing U.N. corruption, including the U.N. Oil-for-Food scandal -- perhaps the biggest financial fraud in history. When no other news organization had a full time reporter on the Oil-for-Food beat, FDD gave Claudia the assignment -- and the resources she needed to bring this story to light.
Producing Radio Programs
FDD produces a weekly talk radio program, Danger Zone, focused on national security and the global war against terrorism.
Future of Terrorism Project
FDD Senior Fellow Dr. Walid Phares examines the strategies that will be needed to defeat new, more lethal strains of terrorism that now threaten America and the free world.
Project on Religion, Politics, and Radicalism
Today, virtually every observer agrees that the United States has not been effectively engaging in the war of ideas. There are many aspects of the current “long war” that are of critical importance, but which go under-studied. The Project, led by Senior Fellow Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, is designed to address critical ideological questions in a manner that can improve public understanding and assist policymakers and analysts.
