Rustum Ghazali

Position: Head of Syrian Military Intelligence, Damascus Countryside Branch

Sanctions: US (April 12, 2004) & EU (May 9, 2011)

The European Union sanctioned Rustum Ghazali, the head of Syrian military intelligence, on May 9, 2011 for his involvement in repressing the Syrian civilian populaiton.[1]

The United States previously designated Ghazali in 2004, as a result of “the Syrian government’s continued support of international terrorism, sustained occupation of Lebanon, pursuit of weapons of mass destruction and missile programs and undermining of U.S. and international efforts in Iraq.”[2]
