As Iran edges closer to achieving illicit nuclear weaposn capabilities, Sudan has remained an ally and supporter of the Islamic Republic's aspirations.

  • On April 25, 2006, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan that Iran was ready to share the nuclear “experience, knowledge and technology of its scientists.” (The New York Times)
  • At the same April meeting, Omar al-Bashir “praised Iran's enrichment of uranium as a great victory for the Islamic world.” (BBC News)
  • At a meeting between the Foreign Minister of Iran and the Sudanese Foreign Minister in December 2009, Sudan announced its support of Iran’s rights to access peaceful nuclear energy. (ISNA)
